Plan the Party Outside
If I could, I would host parties outside all year round. Maybe it’s the sunshine and the warm breeze or the fact that cleaning up afterward is so much easier. I love letting my kids enjoy their cupcakes and treats without worrying about the mess!
A few great places to celebrate outdoors would be at a campground, a park or in your backyard. If you are looking for creative ideas, here’s a simple camping party that we hosted for my daughter’s birthday.
Buy Simple Decorations and Party Supplies
I like to choose 2-3 simple colors that are easy to find and plan my party around them. Find a paper or tassel banner as a backdrop, buy matching paper goods, pretty straws, and a few matching accents and you have a simple party theme.
One of my favorite places to shop is the Target Dollar Spot. I’ve found loads of fun party supplies there including party banners, gift bags, birthday cards, straws, decorations and more!
Use Household Items for Your Party
It’s so easy to “shop” around your house to see what will accent your party well. Choose decorations that are as simple such as picture frames, glass vases, and signs to accent your party.
For my son’s Police Officer Party, I used my husband’s police gear and a cute photograph to create a simple party setup.
Another one of my favorites is my Felt Letter Board. I’ve used mine as a party prop and wrote my kid’s name and birth date to help remember the occasion.
Recruit Help
If you are married or have children, ask them to get involved with the decorating. My kids’ love to help me create and decorate! If you are planning a party for a special child in your life, ask him or her to get involved or ask friend or family member to help out.
Reuse Extra Paper Goods
If you have extra paper goods, why not reuse them for another party? It seems like I always have left over napkins, plates, cups or silverware after the festivities.
Text or E-mail Invites
Skip the paper invites and just send an e-mail or text to your friends and family. It’s one less thing that you need to do and it helps to save money!
Serve Finger Food
Finger food makes planning a kids’ party so much easier! With simple snacks, kids’ can grab a quick bite to eat and run along to play.
My favorite food ideas:
-Jello Squares
-Cupcakes
-Popcorn
-Party Favors in a bag
-Candy
-Cookie Dough Balls
-Fruit
-Vegetable Tray
-Sugar Cookies
-Donuts
-Chips
Prepare The Food Ahead of Time
On the day of the party, I like to focus solely on styling and creating a cute theme. When I prep the food a day or two ahead of time, I feel more prepared and less stressed out about having so much to do.
One tip I’ve learned is to store certain goodies in the freezer so they won’t get soft or mushy before the party day.
Use Party Printables
If you are looking for an easy decorating solution, party printables are definitely the way to go!
I’d highly recommend Mimi’s Dollhouse if you are looking for cute printables for your next party! Take a peek at how I used her printables in my daughter’s Bubbles Birthday Party.
Buy Less Presents
When it comes down to it, kids remember the time they’ve spent with you over how many gifts they’ve received. We like to choose 1-2 items our kids really want instead of loading up on gifts. Having a fun experience with family and friends is definitely what matters the most!
