I can’t believe Christmas is just around the corner! One of my favorite things about the holidays is all the yummy food. Of course I love sweet snacks but it’s nice to have a healthier alternative! Today I’m welcoming my friend Bri the founder of the blog, Parties with a Cause! She will be sharing how to create a healthy Snowman veggie tray!
Hi! I’m Bri Adams from Parties With A Cause where we elevate your events. There’s too much sugar and too many toys in my children’s lives. If you feel the same way I’d love to have you join me as we work to cut through all the noise!
As a big fan of healthy party food I love making fruits and veggies more fun for all of us to eat. Presenting them in a fun way dramatically increases the quantity of vegetables we eat, making this a perfect Christmas party platter!
Simple Healthy Snowman Ingredients
This snowman veggie tray comes together pretty quickly once you have your veggies cut. So roll up your sleeves and let’s make one together!
Starting with the easy list of ingredients:
- Head cauliflower, cut into medium pieces, with additional small pieces
- Olives, 7 whole, and 16 cut in half lengthwise
- Large carrot, peeled and trimmed
- Red pepper strips
- Cucumber slices
- Green pepper, topped and cleaned for a serving bowl
- Ranch dressing for dipping
- Cake plate or Round platter
- Optional: Holiday wreath for table
Veggie Snowman Cauliflower Head
Using a large plate or platter arrange larger pieces of cauliflower into a circle. Don’t worry too much about the little gaps. We’ll fill those in just a second. Do pay attention to the outside shape of your circle and turn the bottoms in for easier shaping.
Fill in Cauliflower Head
Now using your small cauliflower pieces fill in all the gaps without making the face too bumpy. The smaller the pieces the easier they fit into place.
Olive Snowman Hat
Cut approximately 16 olives in half lengthwise and begin arranging your hat. Make a long straight line, for the hat brim, right above the cauliflower head, then leave a gap.
Come in from the sides and build up the hat with 3 rows of olives.
Now, add a second layer of olives, in 2 rows, to cover the seams on the hat. This makes it nice and black.
Red Pepper Hat Band
Our final step in creating the perfect veggie hat is placing a strip of red pepper in that gap between the hat and brim. Now you’re ready to start on the face.
Snowman Veggie Tray: Quick Step Tutorial
If you know what you’re doing and ready to go, here are photos that walk you through the next steps. If you want a little more information and what I learned in the process read on below:
Snowman Face Creation
Using WHOLE olives now you’ll be able to create the snowman’s face. Two for the eyes 5 or 6 for the smile. The round olives may want to roll so get them nestled down snug between cauliflower pieces. Toothpicks are also helpful if you find they won’t stay still.
Red Pepper Scarf
After the eyes and mouth you’ve got the space identified for the carrot nose. Lay it in the space at an angle tilting toward the bottom of the plate.
Now take remaining red pepper strips and create a scarf at the bottom of the head. Lay them around the base, overlapping each other and let a couple of strips hang over just a bit.
And you’re done!
Create The Pepper Dressing Holder
If you’d like to serve your veggies with Ranch dressing, {which is kind of a MUST DO in the United States} having a green pepper as your serving bowl is fun and unexpected. Simply cut the top like you would a jack-o-lantern, scoop out the seeds and peel back the membranes cleaning out the inside.
Fill with dressing and add a small spoon for serving.
Enjoy Your Snowman Veggie Tray
Since this Snowman veggie tray is meant to be eaten, adding additional vegetables like sliced cucumbers or carrot sticks is a great idea to fill remaining space. We used cucumbers to frame the snowman, but be careful to keep them away from the head or they look like giant ears!
I created my veggie snowman on a clear cake plate and set it inside a Christmas wreath to display it on the buffet table. But any round platter will do.
I hope you enjoy this little Snowman Veggie Tray as much as we do. May your holidays be bright and your children eat their vegetables! Thank you so much for having me today!
