Just over a week ago, my daughter Marah turned 1 years old!Ā I can’t believe how fast a year flies by! To celebrate her special day, I designed a specialĀ Spring Swan first birthday party.Ā One of my favorite elements from the party was a feather wreath backdrop. Get the scoop on how to make your own!

Step by Step Tutorial: (How to Make a Feather Wreath)
1. First, cut a piece of wire with tin snips to your desired size and create a circular shape. I choseĀ 14 gauge galvanized wireĀ because it is thick enough to hold its shape but easy to bend. Since my wreath was used as a party backdrop, I made the wire 17 inches in diameter to fill the wall space.
2. Using your pliers, bend each end of the wire back onto itself about a half an inch. Hook the two ends to each other and pinch with pliers to tighten.
3. Heat up your hot glue gun and squirt a bead of glue about an inch long onto the wire. Attach your feathers to the wire and work your way around the wire frame.
Face all the tips of the feathers in the same direction to create a consistent look. After you’ve covered your wireĀ in feathers, go back and fill in the areas where the wire still shows through.Ā
4. (Optional) Add greenery and flowers to your wreath to add some spring time pizzazz. Since my feather wreath was a backdrop for my daughter’s Spring Swan party, the greenery added just the detail I needed to tie my party together.
5. Hang your feather wreath on the wall as a party backdrop. Since my wreath was so lightweight, I was able to hang it up with just a push-pin.
If you are planning a Swan party, a DIY feather wreath would make the perfect backdrop. With just a few supplies and a bit of creativity, you’ll have your wreath done in no time. If you love DIY party decorations, you should take a look at myĀ DIY feather crown tutorial.Ā

This looks too easy! I’ll have to give it a try, I love any excuse for the glue gun and actually have a bunch of white feathers lying around. Don’t ask why, I can’t remember. š
