You might be wondering where the hot chocolate flavor comes from. Well I found these yummy hot cocoa M & M’s and I immediately felt inspired to make hot chocolate popcorn! Let’s get started!
The best part about this recipe is it only takes 4 simple ingredients. Here’s what you need!
Ingredients
-1 Cup Unpopped Popcorn
-4 Cups Mini Marshmallows
-16 oz. Hot Cocoa M & M’s
– 1 lb. Milk Chocolate Flavored Candy Wafers
Pop the Popcorn
To pop the popcorn, I used an air popper because it’s way faster than the stove top way! Once I popped the popcorn, I layered it onto two cookie sheets covered in parchment paper.
Drizzle on the Chocolate
Here’s the fun party if you are a chocolate fan! Melt the chocolate in the microwave and drizzle over the top of the popcorn using a tablespoon. Feel free to switch up the color of chocolate to match a specific party theme or holiday. For example, pink for a Valentine’s Day party or green for St. Patrick’s Day!
Add Toppings
Let’s add some toppings! If I am drinking a cup of hot cocoa, the first thing I do is add marshmallows! So naturally marshmallows were a great addition to my recipe. Just pour your marshmallows evenly over the popcorn.
Then add hot chocolate M & M’s.
Mix it all together! Then let the chocolate harden for 5 minutes.
Place the popcorn in treat cups, add chocolate drizzle to the top and let the chocolate harden!
Serve to Your Guests!
Serve the popcorn right away or store in air airtight bag if you plan to serve the next day. It definitely tastes better fresh though!
Hot chocolate popcorn was the perfect snack to serve at my winter themed hot chocolate bar! It went along just right with a cup of cocoa!
