My daughter loved celebrating her birthday woodland style. She was especially fond of the woodland critters balloons from Anagram Balloons! We created a backdrop using the cutest balloon animals which included foxes, hedgehogs, squirrels and more!
How to Create a balloon backdrop
-First, order your balloons from an Anagram Balloons distributor
-Inflate your balloons using a balloon pump
-Tape the flaps of the balloons down to the back of the balloon using clear packing tape
-To fasten the balloons to the wall, grab a roll of clear packing tape! Cut each piece of tape about 3 inches long and roll it back onto itself. Attach the tape to the back of each balloon. I would recommend 4 pieces of tape attached at different points on each balloon
-Attach the balloons to the wall behind your desert table.
Setting up a dessert table
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about hosting a woodland party? My first thought is forest animals, tree stumps, and moss! To create a fun woodsy look, I decorated a rustic table with elements of nature and forest themed party food!
Woodland animals party decorations
No need to spend a bunch of money on decorations! To incorporate natural elements, I asked my husband to cut a few small tree stumps and branches to accent the decor!
Dried moss, fake leaves, mushrooms, acorns and pine cones also made cute party accents. I found my mushrooms at Hobby Lobby in the Spring decorations section!
woodland theme party food ideas
Although I am a huge fan of making creative snacks, I also like to save time! So I came up with SUPER easy woodland treats that anyone can make!
To add a creative touch, I made my own DIY woodland food labels using round unfinished wood pieces and a sharpie! Click here to find the full DIY tutorial!
Grassy cupcakes
Wanna know how to make the easiest cupcakes ever? Just buy a Betty Crocker’s white cake mix and whip up a batch! So simple!
To decorate your cupcakes, choose a buttercream frosting. Then decorate them using a 12″ piping bag and a grass piping tip!
Swiss roll logs
Sometimes store bought goodies are the way to go! When I was browsing the boxed bakery isle, I noticed that Swiss rolls look just like logs! Score!
To create a fun display of “logs”, I cut the ends off of the Swiss rolls to expose the frosting and displayed them on a pretty cake stand!
HOW TO CREATE A VEGETABLE FOREST LOOK
Vegetables and dip are always a hit at a party! Using broccoli, celery, solo cups and ranch, I created a veggie forest look!
Directions:
-Cut your celery stocks in half. Then cut them into smaller 1″ pieces. Place 5-7 celery pieces in each cup.
-Cut the broccoli florets apart. Be sure to cut them with longer stems so they look like trees!
– Pour a layer of ranch at the bottom of your 9 oz. solo cups, then position the celery in front and the broccoli near the back. Serve and enjoy!
Yummy “wild” berries
What’s better than picking “wild berries”? Of course, mine were store bought but they were a big hit.
What kid doesn’t love veggie straws? Seriously, the kids loved these and came back for 2nds, 3rds and 4ths!
birch tree pretzels
Birch tree pretzels are so easy to make! I made these using white and brown chocolate melts! Taste of Home has the easiest Birch Pretzel Logs Recipe! Mostly, I followed the recipe but I tried a couple of my own ideas!
Ingredients:
–12 oz. Bag of White Vanilla Flavored Candy Melts
–12 oz. Bag of Brown Vanilla Flavored Candy Melts
-Pretzel Rods
Directions:
Melt the white chocolate melts in the microwave. Pour the melted chocolate into a tall glass. Dip your pretzels into the chocolate. Place on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Let them set up for 10-15 minutes.
Melt the brown chocolate melts in the microwave. Pour the chocolate into a 12″ piping bag. Cut a small hole in the bottom of a piping bag. Make sure that you cut a very small hole so the chocolate drizzles out slowly.
Drizzle the chocolate back and forth over your pretzels to create a birch tree look! Let them set for 10-15 minutes. This adaptation of the original recipe yields about 18 pretzel rods.
I hope you gained a few simple, yet creative ideas to set up a dessert table! As you can see, my daughter loved every bit of it!
Setting up a kids’ tablescape
When I am hosting a birthday party, a kids’ tablescape is a necessity! It’s so handy to have a place setting set up for each child. This encourages them to go through the line and grab food right away. Plus the kids’ love to sit together and socialize!
Let’s talk about place settings for a second! Basically, I kept each place setting simple but I wanted it to still give off the forest vibes!
If you are looking for woodland animal party supplies, Oriental Trading Co. has the cutest cups and napkins! The plates and straws I found at Hobby Lobby!
Simple is always best if you are decorating a kids’ table. Chances are, the decorations will get rearranged a bit when the kids sit down to eat. I wanted the kids to feel comfortable and have a fun time, without worrying about messing up the decorations!
Since I was going for all the forest feels, I included quite a few woodsy decorations. A few elements included a wood stand for the cupcakes and forest foliage like leaves, acorns and pine cones!
Most kids love to have yummy snacks available! Be sure to set out a few basic treats for each child to enjoy! I’m a fan of setting out a few cupcakes at the center of the table.
Setting up a simple drinks station
Would you drink swamp water punch? My goal was to create a punch recipe that looked just like a swamp! Check it out!
Swamp water Punch recipe
Ingredients:
2 Liters of 7-Up
1 Gallon Green Berry Rush Hawaiian Punch
4 Drops of Red Food Coloring
Instructions:
Mix all of the ingredients together in a pitcher and serve! If you are going for a lime green color, you can skip the food coloring!
Easy Kids’ activity
Kids’ will thank you for having a few activities to keep them busy! A coloring table was just the thing I needed! I found the cutest woodland animal coloring pages over at Messy Little Monster blog!
You can offer coloring sheets or even cover the table using a roll of white or brown paper! It’s so handy to make the whole table a giant coloring area!
If you are hosting a woodland animals birthday party or baby shower, it’s so easy to decorate for! Whether you choose to decorate with forest themed decorations or woodland inspired snacks, I’m sure you will come up with something creative!
