Halloween Centerpiece Tutorial

Halloween is just around the corner guys! Today my friend Lori from the blog Giggle Living will be sharing super DIY cute Halloween centerpiece idea. Follow along with her easy step by step tutorial and learn how to make your own!

Hi everyone!  I’m Lori from Giggle Living and I’m so excited to be here as a guest blogger today!  I’m really honored that Sarina invited me to share some inspiration with you on her wonderful site!  We have plenty in common when it comes to easy ideas for celebrating all the special little moments that don’t have to be grand to warrant some festivity!  With fall and winter holidays approaching, we have so many opportunities to entertain and decorate our spaces…and the good news is that it CAN be easy, economical and still look pretty!

Today I’d like to share a simple DIY, holiday centerpiece for your tabletop.  A fun decoration to display whether you’re having a dinner party or not!  It will easily transform from Halloween to Thanksgiving and is practically effortless to create!  You only need a few simple supplies…and maybe a trip to the pumpkin patch!  Let’s get started…

Bouquets presented on pumpkins are such a beautiful trend.  The only problem is that if you cut the top off of any perishable item…it won’t last long.  I was inspired to create the same look, without damaging my pumpkin so that the centerpiece would last for weeks…maybe more! 

I chose the Flat White Boer Ford pumpkin for the base of the centerpiece.  It’s a variety that lasts a long time and it’s low & squatty so it won’t interfere with chatting around the table if you’re entertaining! (you can also find artificial versions in craft stores)  A few silk flowers, pins, and a spooky touch completes the supply list…

Because my pumpkin is real, glue from a glue gun may not adhere well…but a simple pin will easily attach the florals to the top and the tiny hole won’t cause the pumpkin to deteriorate faster.

Begin adding some flowers near the stem…

You can simply stick the pin through a petal on the bottom where it won’t show…

Add as many or as few blooms as you like…keeping in mind to save a little space for whatever Halloween embellishment you choose.

I picked a simple craft skull made from Styrofoam and I did use a little glue to adhere him to one of the flowers…but a long corsage pin would also work to hold him in place.

Because the skull is Styrofoam I could pin some of the blooms directly to him so he looks nestled into the bouquet!

A few extra leaves from the floral stems can be tucked around to fill gaps, cover exposed pins and just add some green!

You might have noticed that I had some fresh flowers and greenery in my mix of supplies…

One of my favorite hacks is to add a few stems of fresh blooms to my artificial ones just before entertaining.  It adds elegance and sometimes even scent to a faux arrangement. After the party is over, you can simply remove them and still have a pretty decoration for your table!

I chose to embellish the base of the centerpiece with the fresh additions I cut from the garden.  You can do the same by placing the pumpkin on a pretty tray or plate. Merely tuck the extra blooms or leaves wherever you wish!  A really pretty way to dress it up!

But once the fresh greens are gone…this not-so-spooky pumpkin still looks pretty and should last well past Halloween.  And if your pumpkin is still in good shape, just pop out the skull and add another pretty posy…then it will be perfect for the Thanksgiving table!
