Do you decorate a shelf or mantle for Christmas? For each holiday, I decorate our living room shelf with festive decorations! Mostly I keep the decorations simple and I don’t spend very much money! I’ll be sharing a few easy tips to get started on decorating a Christmas shelf!
Looking for more inspiration? This blog post is part of day 8 of the 12 Days of Christmas ideas blog hop. I’ve joined a few of my blogger friends to bring you fun mantle or shelf decoration ideas! You can find their ideas at the bottom of the post!
Set the Tone with a Simple Backdrop!
In my opinion a backdrop is one of the most important elements of a shelf. Of course there are many ways to create a backdrop but word banners are my favorite!
I found a fun letter banner at My Mind’s Eye shop that accented my shelf perfectly. I’ve used this banner for a party backdrop as well! So handy!
Fill a Mason Jar with Pretty Things!
Guys, mason jars are so handy to decorate with and most people have a bunch on hand! To create a simple Christmas arrangement, I filled a mason jar with real pine branches and Christmas accents!
Then I wrapped black and white gingham style ribbon around the top for a pretty accent!
If you are wondering where to buy Christmas florals, you should check out Hobby Lobby or Walmart! Both stores have a great selection!
Keep the Decorations Simple!
Are you looking for ways to stay in a budget? Check your Christmas tote before you go out and buy anything! That’s where I found most of the Christmas ornaments to decorate my shelf!
Are you a fan of DIY ornaments? Check out this DIY snowball Christmas ornament that I made and personalized with a “K” for our family last name. It’s so easy and fun!
Add a Touch of Nature!
There’s nothing like the smell of fresh pine branches! I’m always collecting real pine tree branches for our yard to bring inside and decorate! They make such simple and pretty decorations!
Do you like to create fun DIYs? Try using pine branches to make a Christmas wreath or a DIY centerpiece!
Overall, decorating a shelf doesn’t need to take tons of time or money! All you need are a few ornaments and elements of nature and you’ll have a cute shelf in no time!
What are you Christmas colors this year? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
